Child Manager / Nanny - Full-Time & Live-In

​What Your Job Will Entail
As a Nanny and part of our family, you will lead activities that map onto our focus of nurturing our child in developmentally-appropriate ways.

You will be entrusted with the following responsibilities in protecting, nourishing, loving and educating our child:
​

2.1 Caregiving of the child
2.1.1 Always keeping the child safe! Always anticipating dangers, and avoiding them, i.e. both indoors and outdoors.
  • Indoor safety - includes keeping our child away from hot objects / liquids/food, sharp objects or corners, dangerous items that could lead to injury or choking, etc.
  • Outdoor safety – includes keeping our child away from dangerous traffic / vehicles, suspicious people, animals /insects/plants that could harm, ensuring child does not wander off, etc
  • Knowing what to do in an emergency or when the child is injured or sick. This includes calling parents immediately, calling for an ambulance or having a neighbour take the child to the hospital if required
2.1.2 Assisting the child with her online learning classes. 
2.1.3 Helping the child with basic needs i.e. meals and fluids throughout the day, changing and washing clothing, bath & bathroom-time. 
2.1.4 Engaging the child in learning and discovery activities, play, songs, books, crafts / art, and outdoor recreation (e.g. walks in the park, and shopping mall)
2.1.5 Helping in the preparation of food for the child. This will include cooking   or preparing food that is ready to eat (e.g. peeling and cutting fruits, warming up food, etc). These must be done safely and away from the child. These must also be done hygienically.

2.2 Cooking
If you can cook or are willing to learn how to cook, this would be a wonderful advantage for you. Cooking for this small family is done once a day. No elaborate meals - just simple food. 

2.3 Cleaning / Light housekeeping
In our home, cleanliness is next to Godliness. As a nanny, you will help us maintain a clean environment for our child. This includes:
2.3.1 Home cleanliness
  • Ensuring things that the child interacts with and touches is kept clean, i.e. the floor space where she plays, her toys, etc. This would include vacuuming and mopping the floor, wiping her toys, wiping her eating table, keeping her room and bed clean, tidying up her toys, etc.
  • Ensuring the things she uses is kept clean, i.e. her cups, bottles and plates for her meals; child’s laundry; her car seat, etc.
2.3.2 Self-cleanliness
  • Our family focuses on minimizing exposure to diseases. We do this by ensuring our hands are always cleaned / washed before we touch our child, especially when we are outdoors.
  • Ensuring that oneself is kept clean is also important. A shower a day helps to keep everyone fresh. Changing clothes each day, and sometimes more than once each day when it gets dirty, helps us all maintain cleanliness.
  • Ensuring the bathroom and bedroom you use is kept clean
Who We Are Looking for
The following is a guide of who we are ideally looking for:
3.1 Qualifications
  • Child care experience (e.g. as a nanny, babysitter, daycare worker, teacher, private tutor, undergrad who has looked after younger siblings, etc)
  • Preference for a basic degree (ideally with a focus on Early Childhood Education / Child Development / Child Psychology / Human Development), but open to explore someone with basic high school education.
  • First-Aid knowledge would be ideal.
 
3.2 Strengths & Personality

3.3 Open & Able to Share our Emphasis
3.3.1 Emphasis on Child Development
Our focus in child rearing and raising is in ensuring our child feels safe physically and emotionally. We also want to ensure she feels happy and assured with her own self, the people around her, and her surroundings. We want to support her in her exploration and learning of her world (within limits, i.e. related to safety). Learning is a key focus in her development, and we view learning as multi-dimensional with facets of fun, interaction, exploration, guided and unguided, facilitated and independent. We will always be there for her as she explores and learns about her world, while ensuring she develops a healthy sense of independence and interdependence.
 
3.3.2 Emphasis on Love & God-Centered Principles
Our philosophy in raising our child is based on two influencing factors: Our spirituality and our professional training. As practicing Christians and our professional knowledge in development, we are attempting to raise our child with a focus on Love – Love for God, Love for Others, Love for Self. Our hope for our child is that she will grow to be a kind and helpful person, making a difference in people around her and her larger world. We also know that she will have her own specific hopes and aspirations, and we intend to support these as she grows.

3.4 Behavioral Expectations
The same rules of the home apply to all family members including the nanny, i.e. No smoking, No alcohol, No drugs, and an additional one for the nanny: No Sexual activity inside the house. We try as much as possible to follow Christian principles, i.e. To Love God, and To Love Thy Neighbor as Thy Self. Thus, responsible behaviour in front of the child includes no swearing or abusive language / signs, talking bad about another person, inappropriate / sexual-type behaviour, dangerous acts, and any behaviour that can cause physical / mental / emotional / spiritual harm to the child. All of us dress modestly at home, and we expect this of every person. 
​Selection Criteria
This is how we plan to select from a pool of candidates applying for this position. Kindly address the selection criteria as best as possible in your application. We understand that you may not always meet every criteria below, and we are willing to explore and build on your strengths.
4.1 Willingness to commit to a minimum of 1 year as a nanny in our home
4.2 Openness to learning and working with / collaborating as a team with parents
4.3 Have the necessary strengths and qualifications (see 3.1 & 3.2). Please include CV, relevant certificates, and photos of yourself with a child/ children you have worked with (where possible)
4.4 Willing to share in our emphasis and behavioural expectations (see 3.3 & 3.4)
4.5 In good health (please attach medical records), free of Covid-19 & transmittable diseases, physically able to take on the role as a nanny, non-smoker and non-drug user.
4.6 Free of any criminal record or offenses (International applicants need to attach Police Report).
4.7 Citizen of any country, but must provide proof of citizenship; and be willing to work in Malaysia. We will discuss necessary documentations in the interview.
4.8 Able to provide references (e.g. from previous employers)
4.9 Can communicate in English (or at least in Bahasa Malaysia)
Benefits
5.1 Salary
We offer a salary that maps onto the extent of meeting the above selection criteria.
The basic salary (per month) is RM1400 - RM1800 depending on the arrangement we have with you.
 
5.2 Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation and all meals are taken cared for. 
Full-time and LIve-In Nanny can opt to cook own meals; Please discuss this further with us on what can and cannot be cooked in our kitchen. (We try to keep our home pork-free).
​Fast-speed Internet Access is provided. 


5.3 Health Insurance
Your health and wellbeing may be covered by basic medical insurance depending on our discussion. 
 
5.4 One day off a Week & Good working hours
Work days are 9am to 10pm with breaks in between. 
Saturday OR Sunday is a day you have for yourself. However, given the current Covid-19 pandemic, all of us are encouraged to stay at home.  

5.5 Emergency / Sick Leave
We provide 1 week of paid emergency / sick leave in a year. Additional days can be arranged with employer.

5.7 Performance Review & Referrals for Future Employment
We believe that your success with us needs to be acknowledged and rewarded, and want to ensure that when you leave us, your success is given due praise and recognition in a good referral for future employment and advancement.

Your performance will be evaluated primarily in reference to 2.1, 2.2, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4. We can discuss other aspects that you would like us to include in your performance evaluation. 
​Who We Are
7.1 Parents
Our focus in our profession is in the development and wellbeing of others. We do this both as paid work and in voluntary work (especially for the poor and those affected by disasters).  We are not rich; we do not own a large house or big cars. If you are looking for a wealthy family, we hope you will apply to more appropriate employers. We are low-middle income, have a small cozy home, live very much within our means, and are more invested in aspects that nurture our love for others and for God. We love peaceful environments (e.g gardens, sea-side, nature), reading inspirational and motivational books, and watching programmes that encourage thinking and relaxation. 
 
7.2 Baby
Our kindergarten child is developing fast. She is inquisitive, and is always engaging her world. She loves books, soft toys, puzzles, lego, walks, fun songs and happy music.
